隨著屏縣端午龍舟競賽接近，參賽隊伍均把握時間練習，東港東新國中去年抱回國中男、女組冠軍，校內游泳池本月啟用，30名選手善用場地練習如虎添翼，準備在今年賽事上大展身手。鼓手、槳手及奪標手放學後在游泳池畔集合，每周3次練習持續1個月，12名選手隨著鼓聲揮動池內水花培養出絕佳默契。結束後再到2樓健身房進行重量訓練，大家對19、20日比賽相當有信心。

教練陳建帆表示，去年選手們刻苦坐在路邊，在空氣揮動船槳，還要求他們閉上眼想像在水上滑行，如今選手們善用地利優勢能感受水上阻力及健身房設備，讓選手實力大大提升。校長涂志宏說，校內游泳池2012年4月動工，耗資4500萬元經費，第1期工程已趕在6月完工，泳池部分已啟用，剛好能在龍舟賽前讓選手們練習；第2期工程有SPA設施，讓學生讀書之餘達到紓壓效果，但目前還在招標階段。他強調，池內水質消毒使用台灣最新電解氯技術，避免使用漂白水殺菌，不會有惱人異味。下學期將開放鄰近鄉鎮學生及鄉親使用，未來有蒸氣室、烤箱等舒療設施，只要在非教學時間歡迎大家利用。，
